highcourtKARACHI: The speakers at a seminar on corruption here Friday underlined the need that every body must clean oneself and the system-activity around to wipe out corruption from the society.

The society should first condemn the corrupt practices and then strongly resist these, they said. The seminar "Good Governance Curbs Corruption" was organised by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh Chapter to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day.

Dean, Faculty of Law of Federal Urdu University, Justice (Retired) Dr. Muhammad Ghous said the corruption-financial and administrative- is one of the major problems for the poor governance and low development in the country.

He regretted that in a country like Pakistan, corruption has become a stuff of life and this should be checked from the top.

He observed that the government agencies meant to check corruption would have to take more organized and effective steps to achieve the desired results.

He emphasized the promotion of merit ensuring selection of qualified and honest people on right jobs for the good governance which helps curb the corruption.

Sindh former inspector general of police Niaz A. Siddiki stressed on an independent judiciary which is very essential for safeguarding the rights of people and upholding the constitution of a country.

"The judiciary is the custodian of the constitution and we must strengthen it to stop social and economic injustice and usurpation in the society. That, every person must have easy access to justice. It is prime duty of a government to protect rights of the people", he said.

Director General NAB Sindh, Major (Retd) Shabbir Ahmed emphasized that every body must check himself-herself in all financial and administrative matters besides being vigilant to make a corruption free society.
