Learning Awareness and Motivation Programme (LAMP), a local non-government organisation (NGO), with the financial assistance of the Republic of Japan, constructed a primary school in New Shakas, a far flung area of Tehsil Jamrud, Khyber Agency. The seven-room school with all kind of facilities has been constructed at the cost of Rs 7 million.
The Honorary, Consul General of Japan in Peshawar, Nawabzada Fazal Karim Khan Afridi inaugurated the school in the presence of the elders of the area and media persons. The school was constructed with the goodwill of the people of Japan, through grant assistance for gross root level and human resource project completed with the collaboration of the embassy of Japan. Banners inscribed with slogans in favour of Pakistan-Japan friendship in English and Pashto were also on display.
Before the construction of the school, the children of the area were used to travel 5 to 6 kilometres on foot for attending school situated in Jamrud. The construction of the school will usher an educational revolution in the area. A special message of the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Chiriro Atsumi was also read out on the occasion.
In the written message, the Ambassador of Japan said that the people of Japan would continue to support the people of Pakistan in their efforts to build a stable and prosperous country. He expressed the hope that the friendship between the peoples of both countries would be strengthened further.
The message said that they are very pleased to hear that the construction of the primary school in Jamrud, Khyber Agency, conducted by the LAMP is completed. He congratulated the LAMP for its continuous efforts for completing the project in such a short period of time.
He was hopeful that the project would help in enhancing the primary education of the area and thus gave children a more conducive learning environment than before. He particularly appreciated the efforts of Nawabzada Fazal Karim Afridi, Honorary, Consul General of Japan and his colleagues working for the sake of the local community of the Fata region.
The message said that they have been working for the noble cause of humanity in the area with the collaboration of the Embassy of Japan since 1996 and projects have been successfully completed until now. Speaking on the occasion, Nawabzada Fazal Karim said that the government of Japan had initiated eight projects in education sector. He said that the next three primary schools would be built for girls to promote female education in the area.
