To mark Brain Awareness Week, the Aga Khan University is organising an awareness session on neurological disorders on March 18. An announcement here on Monday said that Epilepsy, the most common serious brain disorder in the world according to the World Health Organisation, would be one of the topics covered during the session.
Between 40 and 50 million people suffer from epilepsy globally with approximately 1.7 million in Pakistan alone. If treated properly, between 70 and 80 percent of those with epilepsy can lead a normal life. Other topics will include an introduction to the brain and its functions, memory problems, stroke prevention, headache and sleep hygiene. Brain Awareness Week is a global campaign to increase public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research.
