Today on Monday, August 21, Intel plans to reveal ‘Coffee Lake’, its 8th-generation Core processors. However, the company would also reveal a member of its 9th-generation Core family: Ice Lake that would be built on a 10-nanometer plus process and would be launched in near future.

Today, the company is expected to officially announce the specifications of Coffee Lake that is supposed to provide enhanced performances, which are 15 to 30 percent better than the last generation.

The company wrote a brief note on its official website explaining the technology. The note read, “The Ice Lake processor family is a successor to the 8th-generation Intel Core processor family. These processors utilize Intel’s industry-leading 10nm+ process technology.”

According to certain reports by Anandtech, the upcoming chip ‘Cannon Lake’ might be focused on mobile CPUs that are smaller and easier to manufacture when the chip yields are poor. However, the new Ice Lake would arrive once the yields are more stable and able to manage larger desktop-class parts, reports Engadget.

Moreover, the concise description informed that Ice Lake would be released after the Coffee Lake chips that are expected to unveil today. As per reports, when Coffee Lake is expected to arrive by sometime in 2018, this just means that Ice Lake would arrive either by late 2018 or by 2019.

The recent chip launched by Intel was ‘Kaby Lake’ that was built with 14nm process. Its successor, Cannon Lake would reportedly be the first 10nm chip from Intel. The company called Ice Lake as a post-8th generation chip. But, its 8th-generation chip, the Coffee Lake is though another 14nm-built processor, noted The Christian Post.
