LAHORE: The provincial irrigation secretary has said that Punjab government has initiated a project of worth Rs 9,297 million for extension of the Punjab irrigation system with the collaboration of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Presiding over a meeting here on Thursday, Irfan Elahi said that purpose of the project was to ensure provision of water to lands.
He said that distribution process of water would be made transparent besides making improvement in irrigation services.
He said under the project timely provision of water would be ensured to the cultivable area of DG Khan, Bhawalpur and Faislabad adding that 655,240 hectares area would be irrigated.
He said the project would be completed within five and a half years.
