ISLAMABAD: Local authorities have been asked to monitor the health situation in flood-hit areas to prevent children from various diseases.
According to health experts, there is an urgent need of response from the health officials concerned in this regard realizing the expected outbreak of diseases like measles, malaria, polio, pertussis and typhoid.
They also asked the officials to give Vitamin-A supplementation to children in the flood affected areas to fortify their immune system against diseases.
They asked to arrange mosquito nets and coils for people living in affected areas to protect them from mosquito-borne diseases.
They warned that malaria outbreak is likely in the flood-affected areas due to growth of mosquitoes in stagnant water and called for taking necessary preventive measures.
They said the best and most effective method to manage vector-borne diseases in the affected areas is to control the vector at larval stage through use of chemical and environmental management.
They said a sizable quantity of relative medical tool kits should be dispatched to the affected areas and any shortage should be covered with the help of donor communities.
When contacted, an official said that health programmes have been activated and energized to meet the situation while vaccination activities have been initiated in the affected areas to avert spread of the diseases.
