Up-coming talks to boost trade between Pakistan, India

bertidISLAMABAD: Federal Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood said on Sunday that next round of talks with India would help improve the trade relations between the two countries.

Talking to TV channels soon after arrival at New Delhi airport, Commerce Secretary Zafar Mehmood expressed the hope that next round of talks between the two countries would help remove hurdles and boost trade and business activities.

Zafar Mehmood said that this is the second round of talks between the commerce secretary levels after resumption of the composite dialogue.

"We are here to normalize the trade relationship and MFN is only part of it," he stated.

"You can't fully normalize trade relationship without invoking MFN principles because Pakistan and India are both signatories to WTO," Zafar Mehmood said.

"WTO obligates all the members to observe the MFN principles so we will be working on it," he added.

Pakistan's delegation led by federal commerce secretary Zafar Mehmood, arrived at New Delhi for talks with counterpart for promoting business and trade activities between the two neighbouring countries.

Zafar Mehmood and the Indian Commerce Secretary had said that there is a visible changes taking place into Pak-India ties and added that in the next round of talks, discussion would be held on non-tariff barriers in trade.
