MOSCOW: The Russian-British joint venture TNK-BP said Friday that it was interested in joining the partnership that BP struck with Russia's largest oil firm Rosneft last month.
TNK-BP, which is jointly owned by the British oil giant and its Russian shareholders, has sought an injunction in London to halt the Arctic development venture that BP signed with Rosneft in January.
The group of Russian billionaires on TNK-BP's board argued that the deal violated a TNK-BP shareholder agreement that stipulated that the two sides had to inform each other about potential agreements with third parties.
But TNK-BP said in a statement Friday that the company's management had informed the board of directors that it was ready to revise its approach to the deal.
"Based on the documents presented to the TNK-BP by BP concerning its strategic alliance with Rosneft, management informed the board of its potential interest in participating in the alliance," TNK-BP said in a statement.
"The board's discussion of this opportunity was preliminary in nature, and it was agreed to continue the discussion," NTK-BP said.
