Mayor Karachi prohibits pan, gutkha eating, spitting    

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar has directed that action should be taken against all gutkha manufacturers in the limits of KMC and all such units and persons be warned that these would be sealed if they did not close down their business.

He said this while addressing a meeting of KMC departmental heads on Tuesday in his office, said a statement.

The Municipal Commissioner Hanif Mohammad, D.G Works Shahab Anwer, F.A Khalid Mehmood, Sr. Dirctor HRM jamil Farooqui, Sr. Director Municipal Services and other officers were also present. Mayor Karachi directed the Municipal Commissioner Hanif Mohammad to immediately put a ban on the eating and spitting of pan, gutkha in the KMC building.

He said henceforth action will be taken against the head of the department if any employees of KMC is found eating or spitting pan and gutkha in KMC building and the employee will be suspended.

The Muniicpal Commissioner has in this connection issued an order which said The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation?s building is supposed to be a historical and beautiful building situated in the heart of Karachi City.

To maintain its dignity and historical image it is the prime responsibility of all employees of KMC not to indulge in spoiling its beauty and impressive look.

The KMC Administration has taken serious view on the issue of eating & spiting, Gutka, Pan, etc, as due to this undesirable habit the KMC building as well as its premises getting bad look and suffering from unhygienic condition.

Accordingly, all departmental head are directed to take necessary measures to discourage such activities in their jurisdiction,If any employee of KMC is found eating or spitting Gutka, Pan etc in the building premises, the departmental head will be held responsible and disciplinary proceeding shall be initiated against him.

Mayor Karachi also directed the Food and Quality Control Department to take action against the gutkha makers in Karachi.
