A four-member visiting Chinese delegation from China National Machinery Import and Export corporation informed the Board of Investment (BoI) officials that pre-feasibility study of Sonda Jeherrukh coal mine development project has been completed at an estimated cost of $8 million.
The delegation called on BoI officials here today. The meeting was chaired by Secretary BoI, Mushtaq Malik and Chinese side was participated by Qin Ruijuan, Vice President, Huang Qianli, Chief Engineer and Tang Jun, Deputy Commercial Manager.
The Chinese delegation apprised BoI officials about challenges and opportunities available for exploration at their Sonda-Jherrukh Coal Mine Development Project, the MoU of which was signed by them with the Government of Sindh in July 2005.
The Chinese delegation informed that pre-feasibility study of the said project has been completed by them at an estimated cost of $8 million, and it includes successful reports on Topographic Survey, Engineering Survey, Hydyogeological Study, 2D Seimic and Geophysical logging.
It was also informed that it took 22 months to complete the Geological report after signing of the MoU with Government of Sindh. However, the feasibility report, which has been completed this month, proves that the coal-field is technically and economically viable.
It has also been one of their findings that the coal mine with the capacity of 1.80 (Mt/a) is good for feeding a power plant with the installed capacity of 405MW (3X135MW) at the mine head to meet the regional power needs.
The Chinese group expressed their satisfaction over their reports stating coal reserves in the mine are stable and suitable enough for power generation and technically sound for development.
