WHO distributes 18320 mosquito nets for malaria control in flood hit areas: WHO Spokesperson

ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson of World Health Organization (WHO) Maryam Younus said on Saturday that WHO has distributed 18320 mosquito nets in the entire flood-hit area to control the spread of malaria.

Talking to a private news channel, she said that the WHO works for the general health of the people and the fundamental objective of the WHO's presence is to support the government of Pakistan at every level.

She said that the flood water is not draining easily from these areas due to the geographical location of these areas. Therefore, water borne diseases have spread, he added.

She said, the WHO provides all the medicines according to the demand of provincial government and installed water filtration plants in Badin,

WHO has also provided emergency health kits, clean delivery kits, hygiene kits and Aqua tablets for water purification, she added.

She said "we have provided clean delivery kits in the camps and also provided more kits as the demand increases".

To a question, Spokesperson said that they have a regular vaccination campaigns whereas WHO and UNICEF are jointly working and are administering vaccination properly through LHV programme.

Besides WHO has provided snake bite kits and dog bite vaccination to the District Health Departments. The WHO is supplying medicines to them as the cases are reported, she said.
