TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed up 1.86 percent Friday, supported by a European interest rate cut and Greece's decision to back away from its plan for a referendum on last week's eurozone rescue package.
The Nikkei index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 160.98 points to end at 8,801.40. The broader Topix index of all first-section issues rose 1.82 percent, or 13.44 points, to 752.02.
