The government on Friday announced to immediately launch immunisation campaign in flood affected areas of Balochistan and Sindh to control any spread of water-borne diseases. Health Minister Muhammad Nasir Khan issued the directive while chairing a high level meeting to review health emergency response to flood affected areas.
The ministry of health has already established Health Emergency Preparedness & Response (HEPR) cell that is working round the clock. More than 30 medical teams of the health ministry are ready to be deployed in the affected areas while national health surveillance teams are already working in the affected areas to monitor the spread of diseases.
The meeting was informed that the ministry has already sent anti-malaria medicines and equipment worth Rs 25 million to the affected areas. The health ministry has provided 14,000 medicated bed-nets in addition to medicines and spray insecticide to protect people from malaria. The ministry has also embarked on a mass education campaign utilising print, static and FM radio to make people aware of steps to be taken by them during these days.
The meeting was informed that there was enough stock of anti-snake venum (ASV) as all the snake bite patients in the affected areas have been administered ASV. The Ministry of Health has provided about 495,000 packets of ORS, 141,900 tablets of Cootrimoxale, 500,000 chlorine tablets, and 150,000 hand bills related to public awareness about common diseases in the flood-affected areas.
