The ulema of various schools of thought on Thursday unanimously decided not to protest against the Lal Masjid issue on Friday. The decision was taken at a meeting of District Peace Committee held here at the residence of Pir Syed Izhar Hussain Shah Bukhari.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Murrawat Ali Shah and twenty ulema including, Allama Akram Hamdani, Allama Abdul Jalil Naqvi, Allama Nasir Zaidi, Ghulam Ali Qamar, Allama Syed Hamidullah Shah, Allama Hafiz Saliheen and others participated in the meeting.
The meeting further said that issue of Jamia Hafsa or Lal Masjid would not be discussed in Friday sermons. The participants expressed satisfaction over the action taken by the government regarding Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid issue. It said that ulema should forge unity and highlight the importance of unity among the ranks of Ummah in their sermons.
It further said that ulema have been asked not to hold protest demonstration and if someone did so, the committee members would not support them. The participants were of the view that enforcement of Shariah was not the matter of Lal Masjid only but the matter of the entire nation. Appreciating government strategy, the participants said a wise strategy of the government has helped save precious lives.
They assured full cooperation to the government. Later, talking to APP, Allama Pir Syed Izhar Hussain Bukhari said that government should acquire the services of peace committee to tackle such situation. He said peace committees are cluster of flowers adding and could be helpful in maintaining peace and forging unity and harmony among various sects. Allama Bukhari further said services of peace committees were obvious in eliminating terrorism. He asked the government for patronage of the peace committees.
