Ministry of Information Technology is working on a programme to enhance current IT infrastructure at Capital Development Authority (CDA) and to facilitate speedy delivery of its services to citizens.
The project, being implemented by Electronic Government Directorate of the Ministry, is aimed at providing appropriate access to information on the working of CDA thus bringing greater transparency.
Under the project which is expected to be completed by October this year, an official at the Ministry on Thursday said internal networks and simple e-mail systems is being installed within CDA, thereby improving productivity of CDA employees through automation of routine functions of the government.
This will help in reduction in time and effort spent in information search, retrieval and dissemination within the CDA as well as reduction in the cycle time for responsiveness to citizens, he said.
Talking about the benefits of the project, the official said that it would enable inter-organisational and public access to information through implementation of work flow applications whereby images, files, documents, etc can be moved from workstation to workstation, using specific business rules for review, authorisation, data entry, data editing, and task assignment.
Business processes that are accomplished by moving paper can also be managed electronically-from the very beginning to final disposition. The official said provision of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications for human resource, procurement, inventory, project management, budgeting and finance would enable CDA to perform day to day office activities effectively. Similarly, building digitised databases and implementing two-way communication would facilitate e-services delivery to citizens.
The project would enable adoption of computer usage habit by CDA employees. The other objectives of the programme are reduction in the cost of service to citizen by providing government information to the public through a CDA website as well as alternate channels, online availability of forms of the CDA, which are of public nature, online ability to register and track complaints, Call Center to log complaints and get information and interactive voice response system to check status of the application relating to estate matters and complaints.
The official said Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) has also helped enhanced IT facilities in National Assembly and Senate. This programme was aimed at improving internal communication, facilitating access for the parliamentarians and making available all information on working of the parliament, which is of public nature, to the citizens.
The project included provision of servers, personal computers, printers and associated hardware and installation of Local Area Network at the National Assembly and the Senate. He said EGD is also working on the e-enablement of various ministries, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad Police and Establishment Division.
