Balochistan Environmental Protection (BEP) Tribunal here on Thursday issued show cause notice a Chinese company Huawi Technologies Pakistan as to why penalty should not be imposed for having not obtained Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) under Section 12 of Environmental Protection Act, 1997 laying fiber optic cable project in the provincial capital.
The order came when the Director Fiber Optic Pakistan Telecommunication informed the court that a Chinese company awarded contract was responsible under the terms and clauses of the respective Environmental Law to obtain "no objection certificate" and other requirements whatsoever applicable under the law.
The Tribunal headed by Balochistan High Court judge, Justice Mehta Kailash Nath Kohli was hearing a complaint filed by Deputy Director Environmental Protection Agency Balochistan, Muhammad Tahir Durrani in the Tribunal submitting that concerned senior officials of Pakistan Telecommunication did not obtain EIAR prior to operation of the laying fiber optic cable project.
The complainant stated that the project was carrying with no proper planning as people in Chiltan town are suffering and facing great difficulties due to damage of roads and streets, besides Asthma and ENT related diseases are cropping up in the area.
