The Punjab government has put police and other law-enforcement agencies on high alert after attack on the Lal Masjid and all regional police officers were also asked to ensure fool-proof security in their areas.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ahmed Naseem issued a special directive to the regional police officers to utilise all their resources and energies to make sure foolproof security arrangements in their areas. "All the police officers should take effective precautionary measures to check incidents of terrorism and extremism", the IGP said.
He directed the police officials to intensify patrolling at public places, including railway stations, airports, bus terminals, bus stops, markets, cinema halls, hotels, and other important places in their respective areas. The police force in uniform and plain cloths should also be deployed at public places to keep a strict vigil, he added.
The police officers have also been directed to use all available resources and best professional capabilities to keep check on activities of suspected persons, proclaimed offenders and subversive elements.
Special arrangements should be made for the security of faithful during prayers especially Friday prayers at mosques and Imambargahs, while secret cameras and metal detectors must be installed to ensure foolproof security, the IG said.
He also directed the police officers to seek co-operation of people belonging to different walks of life, including traders, transporters, hotel owners, representatives of different organisations, associations and markets to keep watch on suspects.
The transporters were asked to check the luggage of the passengers with mobile scanners while all vehicles parked outside hotels, cinema halls and markets should be checked properly. Close circuit cameras should be used to keep an eye on activities of subversive elements at bus stops and other public places, the IGP added.
