Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Niazi on Monday said there was no possibility of premature dissolution of the assemblies. Talking to APP, he said, given the present emergency like situation in the country due to rains and floods, it will not be possible to hold elections within 90 days, in case of assemblies earlier dissolution.
"Even if they dissolve the assemblies before time, the situation in Sindh and Balochistan, because of rain and flood, is such that elections can't be held there in 90 days," he added. "I think people are only talking about various options that are available. In my opinion the assemblies will complete their tenure and elections will be held on schedule," Sher Afgan said.
He said there is a difference between the word 'term' and 'tenure' and word term has been used for the assemblies in the constitution, which is five years. While the word 'tenure' does not have any time limit, he explained. "It is mandatory to hold elections between September 15 and October 15 once the present assemblies complete their term." Replying to a question about the next session of the National Assembly, he said the summary for the sitting on July 13 has already been sent to the Prime Minister.
