Sindh University syndicate has approved naming of newly constructed Post Graduate Girls Hostel as Dr. Aapa Shams Abassi Post Graduate Girls Hostel in recognition of her valuable services in education, especially in girls education in rural and urban parts of Sindh province.
The decision in this fact was taken by 162 meeting of the syndicate presided-over by Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui here on Saturday.
The syndicate meeting lauded educational and academic services and achievements of Dr. Abassi, which devoted her all efforts for girls' education and also managed scholarships and financial assistance for the poor girls for education.
The proposal which was moved by learned scholar Dr. N.A Balcoh said that Dr. Shams Abassi indeed done a yeoman service for the prosperity of Sindh who would always remain grateful to her for bringing light to households that were earlier steeped in darkness.
The syndicate in its unanimous decision also highlighted services of great educationist and approved naming of University's Post Graduate girls Hostel as Dr. Aapa Shams Abassi hostel.
The syndicate appointed 3- teachers Ms Afshan Rauf, Ms Nadira Shah Assistant Professors of Government Zubeda Girls College Hyderabad and Ms Tamkeen Lecturer Government Ibn-e-Rushdi College Mirpurkhas as member Board of Studies of department of psychology University of Sindh. The syndicate while approving minutes of 86th meeting of Finance and Planning Committee recommended estimated annual budget-2007-2008 of the University for approval of the senate meeting.
