President of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Tanvir Ahmed Sheikh has invited Russian power turbine manufacturers to enter into agreement with Pakistan's private sector for immediate supply of the equipment.
According to a press release issued here on Friday, the FPCCI President said this at a meeting with Consul General of Russian Federation Vladimir V. Selvierstov here on Thursday.
He said that Pakistan was facing acute electricity shortage and several private sector parties were eager to establish power-generating units of 50 MW, but the manufacturers in Europe and other countries were giving delivery time of three to four years. As such, he invited the Russian power turbine manufacturers, and said that they could supply the equipment immediately to Pakistan's private sector.
He said that Pakistan was rich in natural gas and Russia could help us in expansion of its distribution network. Russia could also help Pakistan in modernisation and expansion of Pakistan Steel, he added.
About trade between the two countries, Tanvir Sheikh said the FPCCI and National Chamber and Industry of the Russian Federation (NCIRF) should activate co-operation agreement to explore business opportunities in each other's country.
During the meeting, the FPCCI President and the Russian Consul General meeting agreed that the Pakistan-Russian Business Council could play a positive role in the promotion of trade and economic co-operation between the two countries. The Consul General said that a Russian company had offered to construct Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
He said that the Russian company, which built power plant in Multan, had offered to set up power plants ranging from 50 MW to 600 MW. Another offer was given to Pakistan to put up high-tension lines for transmission of electricity from Central Asia to Pakistan. The Consul General said that Russia was keen to have free trade agreement with Pakistan.-PR
