Karachi Goods Carriers` Association (KGCA) on Friday said that current spell of torrential rains has turned Hawkesbay truck stand into a lake of filthy water and marsh.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, KGCA President Muhammad Khalid Khan, General Secretary Ashiq Hussain and other office-bearers said absence of sewerage system at the truck stand had further aggravated the situation for area residents.
Despite repeated contacts to rain emergency centre and passage of six days no measures are taken to drain out rainwater, they said and added City Nazim Karachi, Sindh home advisor were also present in KGCA office when rain started and observed how rainwater damaged the truck stand.
They stated when rain emergency centre was contacted they referred us to Keamari town administration saying truck stands falls under jurisdiction of that town where no official was present. KGCA office-bearers said goods, waiting to be transported to other parts of the country, had become wet while mud and stagnant water were affecting trucks' movement and loading the goods.
