Pakistan Bar Council, Vice President Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig, President of High Court Bar Association Habib-Ullah Shakir, District Bar Multan President Muhammad Akram Bhatti have criticised banning Royal TV telecast and termed it a violation of the Constitution with regards to freedom of expression.
In their statements they demanded lifting of ban on Royal TV transmissions immediately. They also castigated the derogatory remarks by the federation's counsel Malik Qayyum against Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. They said that instead of passing such remarks, one must ponder into his own conscious.
They alleged that as a judge his deeds are known to every body. They announced publishing a white paper regarding Malik Qayyum's misappropriation being president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
They expressed their determination to give befitting response to Malik Qayyum's legal notice and to remain firm to retrieve the Rs 100 million of the SCB funds from him. They also criticised Pemra for the closure of the royal TV, which shows government's disappointment. They said these tactics could not halt the ongoing struggle for the independence of the judiciary. The lawyer community on Thursday boycotted the courts to express solidarity with Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
