The NWFP Assembly on Tuesday passed the provincial budget for 2007-08 after the joint opposition withdrew all of their cuts motions on the remaining 47 demands for grants for various departments of the province.
The opposition, which had presented cut motions on all the demands for grants, debated only few wherein they criticised the performance of the education, health, agriculture, irrigation, and others leaving the treasury members to pass the budget.
The opposition members, who criticised the performance of the government departments, withdrew their motions after getting assurances from the ministers of concerned departments. The house also passed the charged expenditure and finance bill 2007-08 unanimously.
The house also granted approval to 47 demands for grants to the tune of Rs 97.675 billion through voice of vote. Provincial Finance Minister Shah Raz Khan presented the finance bill. The Parliamentary leader of PPPP, Abdul Akbar Khan, moved some amendments to the bill, but later withdrew.
