'Founding Father of Student Leadership'- a memoir of the late Qamar-uz-Zaman was launched by Rifat Anwar on Friday evening at the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boy's Association of Pakistan.
The memoir was presented to Z.A. Nizami, Chancellor Sir Syed University by compiler Ziauddin Ahmed at the launching ceremony in the presence of family members of late Qamar-uz-Zaman and his close friends.
On the occasion, Zakir Ali Khan, advocate Iqtidar Ali Hashmi, Dr Javed Anwar, S.A. Nasar, Azhar Abass Hashmi, Rifat Anwar and Saad Zaman amongst several other friends were present. Speakers paid homage to late Qamar-uz-Zaman and dubbed him a man of excellence and a great orator as a student leader of the sub-continent having the ability to enchant the audience with his words.
Azhar Ali Abbas said that he was a great orator but above all a great human being and friend. He recalled that Karachi University was established in 1952 and most of the teachers were from Aligarh College, similarly the student leader- Qamar-uz-Zaman was also from the same academic institution.
Lamenting the ban on student unions in the higher academic institutions in the country, he said that it has put a negative impact on the students' mental growth to mark the success with academic excellence.
Paying tribute to him, S.A. Nasar- called him a faithful friend and selfless person always supported others in crisis. He was a great orator, he observed. Qamar-uz-Zaman was the winner of all the tittles of oration contests from Peshawar to Chittagong.
Iqtidar Ali Hashmi extolled him for his generosity, selflessness and support to others, saying that his memoir was just 'a tip of iceberg' to his personality, and achievements. Several books could be written on his character, achievement and his personality to highlight him, he asserted.
Zakir Ali Khan said that he was the first student leader at any university of Pakistan, adding he said that he was the first exponent of a philosophy of establishing 'career cell' at the Sir Syed University to provide the students with jobs after completing studies. He mentioned that about 4300 students had successfully got jobs with this initiative.
Saad Zaman, his son, on the occasion, announced to donate a primary school to the public in Thatta in behalf of his family besides browns medals for successful students in oration contest at Sir Syed University every year. Z.A. Nizami and Rifat Anwar also expressed their view at the book launching ceremony.
