A high level meeting held at Governor's House here on Saturday with the NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) in the chair discussed the proposed Fata Annual Development Program for the year 2007-08.
The meeting was informed that the total volume of the ADP had been raised by more than one billion rupees taking it to Rs 7.5 billion. The program, as was stated contained 1085 development schemes including 866 ongoing and 219 new schemes and 80 percent of the total outlay had been allocated for the ongoing and 20 percent for the new schemes.
The meeting held point-to-point discussions of the new development schemes and fixed priorities. The highest allocation of Rs 1.83 billion has been proposed for the communication sector whereas Rs 1.4 billion, the second highest amount would be spent on promotion of education in tribal areas.
While discussing the strategy and goals of the new deployment program, it was stated that the main object of the program was accelerated development with focus on Agency specific schemes keeping in view the local needs.
During the process of formulation of the draft ADP, the political administrations, line departments and public representatives had been consulted at the Agency as well as Secretariat level.
To ensure transparency, all the stakeholders had been involved in the consultative process. The Governor in his remarks laid stress on early completion of development schemes saying that the ongoing projects should be allocated more funds to ensure early completion.
He particularly mentioned about public welfare development schemes in the communication, education, health and drinking water supply sectors and said that completion period of such schemes must be reduced. He directed regular monitoring of the development schemes as well.
