Four paramilitary soldiers were killed Saturday in a restive tribal area bordering Afghanistan when their vehicle hit an explosive device, officials said.
The soldiers were clearing the area in Karam Kot village, in North Waziristan, early Saturday as a military convoy was due to pass, a security official told AFP.
"An improvised explosive device exploded near the vehicle of paramilitary soldiers. Three were killed on the spot, while the fourth soldier died at hospital due to injuries," the official said. A suspected missile strike killed at least 30 suspected al Qaeda militants in Datta Khel village in North Waziristan last week.
A senior intelligence official and residents said three missiles fired from Afghanistan hit the building. The army said the blast was caused by explosives at the site, which it said was being used as a training camp.
