The first rains of monsoon season lashed the metropolis on Thursday evening making the heat-ridden Karachiites pleased but leaving the vehicular traffic clogged on various important thoroughfares.
Prolonged traffic jams were witnessed particularly on Sharea Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, University Road, Shahrae Liaquat, where public suffered of traffic chaos in the wake of sudden stormy rains.
It dislodged the tin-made roofs of the houses at the colony of meteorological department, however no casualties were reported. In other parts of the city, some road accidents were witnessed.
The Met Office has forecast rain with thunderstorm during the next 24 hours in the city. According to Met office, 19-mm rain was recorded at Sharae-Faisal, 17mm at University Road, 10.2 mm at North Karachi and 17 mm at Karachi airport. However, at Masroor base rain could not be measured due to its low ratio.
