There is no post office within 6-7 kms range in block-8, Sector 39-A&B, Scheme-33 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.
Consequently, the citizens living in this area, which is under sharp development, are forced to travel 15-16 kms for going and coming back to complete their postal needs either at Malir Cantt or Shahrah-e-Faisal or Gulshan-e-Iqbal or other POs at far distant locations.
As a result, the residents of this area are being denied of postal facilities. The other choice of Post Office-75290 located in block-14 is very irregular, lacking in postal services and manpower; therefore, undependable. It has no fixed timings due to shortage of working hands.
This PO is located on a dense street and away from main road and commercial area, due to which it is not easily accessible by general public. As there are no security arrangements at this Post Office, it does not function after sunset. One Franchise PO located around Jouhar Square has ceased operations on account of non-payment of commission to its owner by PMG-Sindh.
The area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar is spread over 20 blocks and populated by nearly 2 million people but there is only one disabled post office-75290 to serve this entire region. In fact, this widely populated area requires at least 2 General Post Offices (GPOs), some more post offices and a few sub-post offices.
It is very ironical that postal authorities are ignoring public demand to acquire spaces for opening up more POs in various under construction high-rise buildings and shopping centers in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi. This is highly deplorable.
The Federal Minister for Communication and Director General Post Offices are requested to kindly take note of this genuine public problem and arrange immediate remedial measures.
