As many as 8,000 lawyers of 13 districts of Southern Punjab observed complete strike on Thursday. They wore black armbands and hoisted black flags atop of bar buildings at the call of Pakistan, Punjab Bar councils.
Lawyers also organised rallies which terminated after marching in district courts and Kutchery Chowk to condemn the reference against chief justice of Pakistan and for the supremacy of the judiciary, attack on the house of CJ's nephew and on the chamber of Lahore High Court Bar Association's former president.
Lawyers of Multan also expressed their sympathy and solidarity with the lawyers of Sahiwal where Chief Justice of Lahore High Court transferred the Sessions judge who was hearing a case against the police officers and a large number of cases transferred to Okara and Pakpattan courts.
Addressing a Press Conference President of DBA Multan Muhammad Akram Bhatti, General Secretary Mumtaz Noon Tangra, Raja Gul Shahid Ahmed and Ghulam Hussain said," we would not let anyone to play in the hands of the Government and we would continue our struggle for the supremacy and independence of judiciary. They vehemently condemn the transfer of a judge of Anti-terrorism court Muhammad Islam who was hearing a case against policemen and officer.
Meanwhile, four senior lawyers of Dera Ghazi Khan started their journey to Multan on foot on Thursday to join the reception of Chief Justice of Pakistan on June 23rd in Multan. The team comprising Mian Faheem Akbar, Amjad Majid Pathan, Muhammad Aqueel Ahmadani and Muhammad Aftab Khan Baloch was warmly sent off from the district bar. They would complete their 110-km long journey in 48 hours.
Similarly, another delegation of lawyers left for Multan barefooted. District Bar Bahawalpur President Mian Muhammad Ijaz Bhatti ,General Secretary Masud Aziz Khan and a large number of members of the bar warmly sent them off. Reception camps were established in Lodhran, Basti Malook, Adda Laar and Multan for them.
