Chief Minster Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim Thursday announced returning all the honours awarded to his ancestors by the British rulers and called upon all other Muslims of the province to do so and lodge peaceful protest against awarding knighthood to Salman Rushdie, author of blasphemous book, by the UK.
In a press conference at the CM house, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said," I do not feel any hesitation to admit that British rulers had also awarded our elders with medals and honours. King George VI had awarded my grandfather Arbab Mir Mohammed a medal on May 1937 and uncle Arbab Togachi earned honour of 'Khan Sahib' in 1945 at Delhi."
He, however, regretted Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal's strike call on Friday June 22 against the knighthood of Rushdie and suggested other peaceful and appropriate forums available to condemn the UK.
Regarding his statement in which he had asked Chairperson Pakistan People's Party Ms Benazir Bhutto to return her grandfather Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto's honour of 'Sir' back to the UK, Arbab Rahim said it was because her grandfather had similar honour as that of Rushdie.
He suggested that all Muslims must follow noble and decent way of protest and condemn the British government for promoting people like Salman Rushdie, who crossed limits of right to express and harmed feelings of Muslims as well as non-Muslims who hold respect for the prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him.
Arbab mentioned that no doubt the British government introduced good governance, law & justice, irrigation, railways, communication and systems in Sindh but still many honourable people returned awards and honours back to the UK during Independence Movement.
