The private sector is totally ignorant about wheat export policy as the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) is not responding to calls for compensation against penalties it bore on LCs opening, sources told Business Recorder.
"Even after submission of LCs, the government did nothing" an exporter of wheat told Business Recorder. "The importers with whom we had commitments are now pressing for penalties. It is really pathetic that we will have to suffer just because our government is not co-operating with us," he added.
The private sector will be in a fix if the government does not let it export all wheat that has been promised. "The private sector had to export approximately 500,000 to 600,000 tons wheat. If the situation remains the same, then next year there will not be even a single importer of Pakistani wheat. In other words, it damaged our reputation in the market," the exporter said. However, official circles describe this as pressure tactics.
