Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said the elections would be held on schedule and assemblies would complete their term in accordance with the mandate of people. The prime minister was talking to a group of parliamentarians, including ministers, who called on him here at his Parliament House Chamber.
He said the people of Pakistan were looking forward to bring further improvement in the quality of life and desire for basic facilities at their doorstep.
The reform agenda of the government, he said, had duly been acknowledged by every section of the society, which had added to the confidence of PML and its allied parties to carry forward the reforms as part of their manifesto in upcoming elections.
The prime minister said that on the basis of its performance in office, the PML along with its allies would contest the next general elections from a single platform.
He said that Pakistan was passing through an important phase and the continuity and consistency of policies was necessary for maintaining the momentum of reforms initiated to make the country an economic powerhouse of the South Asian region.
He said that the people were politically aware and appreciated the reform agenda of the government, which had brought political and economic stability in the country, improved the life of common man and restored the dignity and respect of the country in the comity of nations.
He said that the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the next year's budget would usher in a new era of infrastructure development and prosperity in all parts of the country.
The prime minister said that because of the reform-oriented policies of the government the benefits of high economic growth had started to trickle down to the grassroots level.
The parliamentarians appreciated the initiative taken by the prime minister to announce consultation with all political parties to prepare a code of conduct before the next election.
They said that the relief announced by the government in the new budget especially in kitchen items and the subsidies for the agricultural sector had been welcomed by people from across the country both in urban and rural areas.
