It was very interesting to hear the budget speech of our Minister of State for Finance. The most important part of the Minister's speech was his repeated question, after every paragraph, "Which previous government has done so much for the people?".
If it had not been for the frequent interruption in the cable transmission, on account of power failures, I would have counted the number of times he had repeated his boast. Just at the time when the minister was boasting, many streets of Karachi were illuminated, not by the streetlights, but by the burning of tyres due to load shedding.
I would like to add a few more "achievements" to his list.
1. During which previous government has Karachi suffered such an acute shortage of electricity?
2. During which previous government has Karachi suffered such acute shortage of water?
3. During which previous government has Karachi suffered total failure of law and order as on 12th of May?
4. During which previous government have petrol prices reached such a back breaking level, which has led to a sky rocketing increase in price of daily household necessities?
5. During which previous government had so many utilities been handed over to the private sector without due diligence of the bidder, particularly KESC? We can go on adding to this list.
