The Lok Virsa has initiated a project "Museum Education Programme" with leading educational institutions for encouraging students in field research related to cultural heritage of Pakistan.
In this regard Lok Virsa, National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage has signed agreements with 12 universities in order to promote museum education among new generation, said Anwaar-ul-Haq, Programme Executive, Lok Virsa.
Pakistan has strong and civilised traditions and "our people love the art that depicts immaculate civilised values and it is a step towards promotion of cultural education to the university students", said Anwaar-ul-Haq while talking to APP.
Lok Virsa was established with the mandate for field research, collection, cultural studies, cultural documentation, scientific preservation, study of the oral traditions, folklore, indigenous cultural heritage and traditional culture of Pakistan.
In Pakistan, no other institution is presently providing support to students for fieldwork and higher research in cultural heritage of Pakistan. The Lok Virsa is the only institute, which is providing this opportunity to the students with government's support to facilitate young generation in every possible manner.
All nominations/research areas received from the collaborating universities are approved by the Academic Committee of Lok Virsa comprising experts and knowledgeable people in the respective fields. Funding of over Rs 9 million has been supported by Lok Virsa under the Museum Education Project, Anwaar-ul-Haq said.
The objective of the project is to provide museum education for the students and research scholars to gain understanding of our magnificent cultural heritage in fulfilment of their M.Sc and M Phil degrees.
The educational institutions include Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, Department of Anthropology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Centre of Excellence in Arts and Design, MUET, Jamshoro, University of Balochistan, Quetta, Pashto Academy and University of Peshawar.
The other institutions include, Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Government College of Home Economics, Lahore, Institute of Social and Cultural Studies, University of Punjab, Lahore, Institute of Social and Cultural Studies University of Punjab Lahore, University of Education, Lahore, University College of Art and Design and University of Punjab, Lahore.
