Airblue, the largest private airline in Pakistan, has taken the initiative and started its 'Green Revolution' by elaborating that it would plant more than 1 million trees in the coming year marking its third anniversary.
In a press release issued here on Saturday, it was said that the airlines three years of growth has now turned its focus on the corporate social responsibility by making Pakistan a cleaner and greener place to live in for the future generation.
Airblue COO Shahid Khaqan Abbasi planted a tree to launch its plantation campaign at the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) Building, here on Saturday. The plantation took place at the triangular garden, Sarwar Hassan Triangle, named after Sarwar Hassan, founder of the PIIA.
The Airblue is the first airline to have adopted such a park in Pakistan and look after its upkeep as a part of its 'Green Revolution'. The Sarwar Hassan triangle is being developed by the airblue as a landmark of its responsibility to the people of Karachi for providing a cleaner environment.
The aviation in the current time transports over two billion passengers annually around the world and 900 airlines of the world with a fleet of 22,000 aircraft contribute towards generating green house gases thus pollution the environment. Although today's aircraft are 70 percent more fuel efficient than they were 40 years ago but they still cause two percent to the global warming.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi emphasised that efforts are needed by more and more organisations, particularly airlines to help build a green and healthy environment for the generations to come. Airlines in the next 50 years are expected to contribute up to three percent emissions containing CO2, H2O and NO.
He also said that aircraft manufacturers today devote 15 percent of turnover to research for making better and environment-friendly aircraft for the future.-PR
