Adulteration of milk was a serious problem in Pakistan while the WTO-Quality Control Laboratory of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) had developed various techniques to test adulteration in milk.
This was stated by UVAS vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz while addressing a seminar on "Use of modern techniques to enhance productivity of water buffaloes" arranged by the UVAS's Department of Animal Nutrition, here on Friday.
University teachers, livestock experts and farmers in a large number attended the seminar. Professor Nawaz maintained that Pakistan had the best breeds of buffaloes and increased use of water and balanced feed would greatly help in enhancing milk production.
Professor Dr Tablet Nasser Pasha, Dean Faculty of Livestock Business Management, presented a paper on the importance of buffaloes in Pakistani economy. Dr Shahida Jamil from the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council and Dr Mukhdoom Abdul Jabbar spoke on the occasion.
Later two technical sessions were held in which experts from the UVAS, Punjab University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Agriculture University Peshawar presented papers on various aspects of use of hormone to enhance milk productivity of buffaloes.
