The Punjab governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said human rights in Punjab is strictly followed and only those persons are being arrested who create law and order and police register cases against them while over all politics and media is free and independent in the country.
Talking to journalists here on Friday the governor said that political parties are freely working in the country without restrictions. The governor was visiting chambers of commerce and met industrialists to develop consensus on the federal budget. He would also address the Punjab chamber soon.
To a question, the governor said that the government has imported two generators of 300-megawatt each to prevent loadshedding and to give relief to the public. He said that the government has sped up establishment of more then 5000 new utility stores at union council level and the public would feel relieved in the next two months.
Earlier, addressing the members of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry the governor said that the federal government presented investment friendly, relief oriented and balanced budget, which would boost business environment in the country. He said that President General Pervez Musharraf has brought wonders since taking over the country's rule.
The communication infrastructure has developed with new roads, hospitals and education institutions have been established in Multan and South Punjab. He said that this is election year and the welfare oriented federal budget was the reflection of President Musharraf's commitments to economic policies.
The governor also congratulated Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi for presenting a welfare-oriented provincial budget especially allocation of Rs 500 to 650,000 poor families' help that would improve the living standards of a lay man.
The Punjab budget has wide scope for new business and the allocation of Rs 500 billion for PSDP, will be the engine for growth. Speaking on the occasion MCCI president Anis Ahmed Sheikh paid tribute to federal budget and demanded release of Rs 1 billion for extension and upgradation of Multan airport.
He also demanded immediate execution of construction work at head Muhammadwala Bridge, Faisalabad-Khanewal motorway, science and Technology University, Women University and Engineering University, Nishtar Ghat Bridge, launching of television station and establishment of civil club. FPCCI president Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, city district nazim Mian Faisal Mukhtar Sheikh and others also spoke on the occasion.
