The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has strongly condemned the death of Sarmad Mansoor Finance Secretary PPPP Gujrat, in Kot Lakhpat Jail. Office bearers of LHCBA including President Ahsan Bhoon, VP Firdous Butt, Secretary Sarfaraz Cheema and Ruby Hayat Awan in a joint statement here on Friday expressed grief on death of Sarmad and alleged Gujrat police for this incident.
They pointed that police had arrested Sarmad and detained him in Kot Lakhpat jail for three months while they alleged crackdown was done at the behest of Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi to make his campaign of arresting and harassing workers of political parties successful.
The LHCBA pointed that on June 14 advocate Mohammad Hanif Tahir with other members of LHCBA visited the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat jail and asked him to provide Sarmad proper medical treatment. He told the (superintendent) about his deteriorating health, but superintendent denied their request saying that Sarmad was totally fit and fine but later that evening he died due to negligence and stubbornness of police.
