TOKYO: The dollar surged quickly against the Japanese yen in Tokyo trade on Monday, amid reports that authorities had intervened to weaken the unit after it hit a fresh postwar high against the greenback.
The dollar climbed to more than 78 yen at around 0130 GMT after hitting a fresh post-war low of 75.32 in Oceanian trade earlier Monday.
