cricketDHAKA: Teenager Kraigg Brathwaite closed in on a half-century as the West Indies reached 88 for no loss at lunch on the opening day of the second and final Test against Bangladesh on Saturday.

Brathwaite, who turns 19 in December, was unbeaten on 49 at the break with Kieran Powell (37 not out) after the West Indies won the toss and elected to bat in Dhaka.

Both the West Indies openers played some handsome shots in the morning session, with Powell hitting fast bowler Shahadat Hossain for two successive fours early in his knock.

Brathwaite has so far cracked five fours off 93 balls and Powell six boundaries in his 82-ball innings.

Bangladesh pressed key spinner Shakib Al Hasan into the attack after only five overs, but failed to break the stand. The left-arm spinner bowled a miserly opening spell, conceding just seven runs in eight overs.

The West Indies made two changes from the side that drew the opening Test in Chittagong, bringing in Powell and fast bowler Kemar Roach in place of injured Lendl Simmons and Ravi Rampaul.

Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Elias Sunny, who took seven wickets on debut in Chittagong, was ruled out of the match due to an upset stomach. He was replaced with debutant Suhrawadi Shuvo.
