MIAMI: Hurricane Rina weakened Thursday to a tropical storm hours before it was expected to crash into tourist resorts dotting Mexico's Caribbean coast like Cancun and Playa del Carmen, US experts said.
Despite the downgrade, Rina was still forecast to be packing winds of around 60 miles (100 kilometers) per hour when it makes landfall late Thursday or early Friday, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.
