After the removal of Anurag Thakur as chief of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), amid a verdict by the Supreme Court of India; former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has emerged as the front-runner to take over the post of BCCI president.
At the moment, the SC bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur has said that the working of BCCI will be looked after by a committee of administrators.
Whereas, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also expressed his desire to see Ganguly take the top job. "BCCI has got a very good bench strength to take up the bigger roles and one name that comes to my mind is Sourav Ganguly," said Gavaskar as reported by NDTV.
As per reports, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official CK Khanna, who is vice-president from Central Zone, is the senior most. However, observer for DDCA Retd Justice Mukul Mudgal, in a report had termed Khanna as a "pernicious influence," reported Times of India.
Ganguly being the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, which is one of the few associations that was willing to implement the Lodha reforms. The left-handed batsman has also attended two annual general meetings (AGM) which adds to his qualification required to head the cricket world's richest body.
