imagePakistani umpire Aleem Dar, hailed as one of the best in world cricket, has taken over South Africas Rudi Koertzen to become the second most capped umpire in Test cricket history.

Dars record of umpiring 109 Test matches is second only to the legendry Steve Bucknor, the now retired West Indian who conducted 128 Test matches.

Dar, with no active umpire close to his tally, is all set to become Test crickets most experienced umpire. Aleem Dar has last umpired in South Africa v Sri Lanka Test match at Port Elizabeth, on Dec 26-30, 2016.

In the One day format, Aleem Dar is third on the list of most matches as an umpire with 182 ODIs in his kitty, only New Zealands Billy Bowden has umpired in more ODIs in current active umpires with 200 ODI, while the top spot unsurprisingly belongs to the now retired Koertzen, with 209 matches.

The Jhang born umpire has come a long way since umpiring his first ODI in 2000 aged 32. Dar rose to prominence and within two years he had been appointed to the ICC panel and then went on to become the member of the ICC's elite panel.

In 2003 he officiated in the World Cup, and won plaudits for making sounds decisions in tough matches.
