Pakistans all-rounder and former captain Shahid Afrid has dismissed reports that he would be entering the countrys politics in the near future.
Afridi, who enjoys one of the biggest followings in Pakistan, has fallen out of favour from the PCB and is struggling to get a farewell match, stated this in a media briefing on Sunday.
The outspoken sportsman was of the view that there is no need for him to become a politician, as he is already serving his people through his various foundations. A politician is obliged to serve his people one way or the other I am doing that through my foundation, said Afridi reported Express Tribune.
While answering to the farewell match issue, the 36-year-old, who quit leading the national T20I team after the 2016 World T20 tournament, said that he has been serving the countrys cricket for more than twenty years, and do not require a farewell match by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
"I earn love from my fans and cricket-lovers. It matters to me the most," he said.
The statements come, after he demanded PCB to grant him a farewell match in September, A farewell match is my right, said the cricketer. It was learnt that Afridi was selected in the Pakistan squad for the series against West Indies. However, he was later dropped off by the board.
