Bollywood most celebrated movie star Aamir Khan has once again proved himself in his latest release Dangal. The film wouldnt have been made without him as he brought the sincerity of purpose which makes it not just a starry vehicle, but a film which is about something, which has meaning, with a message.
Dangal is also about the exhilaration of excellence; the sheer joy of winning. And, most importantly it is about the innate strength of women.
Its based on the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, an amateur wrestler who lived for the proud dream of seeing his country take home athletic gold. Due to a lack of government sports funding, Mahavir wasnt able to go for the gold himself so he took his two eldest daughters, Geeta and Babita, and turned them into competitive wrestlers, cutting against the grain of what Indian society wanted and expected girls to be.
According to a popular Indian critic Anupama Chopra, the writing in Dangal is clunky in places. It starts out with too much exposition and has a melodramatic climactic twist that was unnecessary and unconvincing. The wrestling scenes are skillfully filmed but it does get repetitive and stretched, especially in the second half, Hindustan Times reported.
Bollywood film fraternity is going crazy for the movie and flooding Twitter with their praises and well-wishes.
