FAISALABAD: Last phase of local bodies election will be held on December 22 with the election of mayor/deputy mayors of municipal corporation and chairman/vice chairmen of district council and municipal committees.
Regional election commissioner Tahir Hasan said the Election Commission had made arrangement to conduct these elections in peaceful manners throughout Faisalabad Division.
He said that polling would start from 9.00 a.m. and continue without any interval till 2.00 p.m.
He said that instructions had been issued to ensure the sanctity of vote and hence nobody would be allowed to take photograph or carry mobile phone in the premises of polling stations.
He said the electoral college for the election of mayor and three deputy mayors of municipal corporation consisted of 182 members including 157 elected chairmen of city councils and 25 members elected against various reserved seats. Similarly, he added, the electoral college for the top slot of district council consisted of 214 members including 189 elected chairmen of union councils and 25 elected against various reserved seats.
Three panels are participating in the election of city mayor.Muhammad Razzaq Malik panel is contesting the election on the symbol of lion while Mayor Group has fielded Sheraz Kahlon as candidate for the top slot of the corporation. Pakistan Tehreek Insaf is supported candidate and former city Nazim Chaudhary Mumtaz Ali Cheema is also contesting for the office of city mayor.
In district council, three panels are in the run for the office of chairman. PMLN candidate Chaudhary Zahid Nazir is contesting the election for Chairman on the symbol of lion. Another candidate Mian Qasim Farooq is contesting on the symbol of refrigerator. The PTI has also fielded its panel and Sardar Khan Bahadar Dogar is in the run for chairman but their presence is just ceremonial as the PTI has very little support in the district council.
Polling will also be held for five municipal committees including Jaranwala, Khurrianwala, Tandlianwala, Samundri and Dijkot.
The district administration has announced holiday for schools, colleges and offices where polling stations have been established for the election of local bodies.
