European stocks steady at open, before EU summit

LONDON: Europe's main stock markets steadied at the start of trading Wednesday ahead of a make-or-break EU summit on firmly tackling the eurozone debt crisis.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index edged up 0.02 percent to 5,526.79 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 dipped 0.09 percent to 6,041.16 points and in Paris the CAC 40 dropped 0.21 percent to 3,167.66.
