Broad leads fightback as England set 405 to win

imageVISAKHAPATNAM: Fast bowler Stuart Broad shrugged off a right foot injury to lead England's fightback in the second Test on Sunday as they dismissed India for 204 in their second innings in Visakhapatnam.

The visitors will still require a formidable 405 win to win after Broad and Adil Rashid claimed four wickets apiece as India collapsed from 98 for 3 at the start of play, losing their last seven wickets for 87 as captain Virat Kohli top scored with 81.

The target would have been slightly less daunting but for a stubborn last-wicket partnership of 42 runs between Mohammed Shami and Jayant Yadav, who finished unbeaten on 27, that delayed the scheduled lunch break by 20 minutes .

Broad, who is playing with a strained tendon in his right foot, struck early to send overnight batsman Ajinkya Rahane back for 26 in the fifth over of the day.

Starting the day on 22, Rahane was undone in by a rising leg-cutter from Broad as he softly steered the ball into the waiting hands of England captain Alastair Cook at slip.

The wicket ended the 77-run fourth-wicket partnership between Rahane and Kohli.

Broad, who had rattled the Indian top-order with twin strikes on day three, also had Ravichandran Ashwin caught behind for seven.

Leg-spinner Rashid soon swung into action with four wickets including that of captain Kohli who added 25 runs to his overnight 56.

Kohli was guilty of going after a widish delivery from Rashid as Ben Stokes took a brilliant diving catch at first slip to end his 109-ball stay and reduce India to 151 for 7.

Rashid made that 162 for nine with the wickets of Ravindra Jadeja (14) and Umesh Yadav (0) before Jayant Yadav and Mohammed Shami (19) took the score past 200.

India scored 455 in their first innings and England replied with 255.
