Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal Sahi has said the government has formulated a strategy for setting up maximum industries to cope with threats of unemployment in the province. The Punjab Assembly Speaker inaugurated the Sui gas project of Rs 20 million in the adjoining village on Friday night.
Addressing a public meeting on the occasion, he said the step had been taken not only for bringing industrial revolution but also for creating maximum employment opportunities for the educated and skilled persons according to their abilities.
He said the country's biggest industrial estate was being developed on 2,400 acres of land in Sainwala. The Garment City besides industrial estates was being developed and with the completion of those mega projects, he revealed, more than one million people would get direct and indirect employment opportunities in the Punjab.
The PA Speaker stressed upon the business community that they should come forward and set up maximum small and big industries for generating the employment scope and to ensure strong industrial base in the Punjab.
The government, he said, had also concentrated its special attention on improving the irrigation system and under the programme, distributaries and minors were being constructed for overcoming the wastage of water and seepage, besides the capacity of canals was also being increased in the Punjab.
The programme aimed at providing sufficient water for irrigation purposes to the growers, especially the tail farmers in the Punjab, Afzal Sahi added.
The PA Speaker disclosed that the large number of small dams was being constructed in various parts for the storage of water for catering the needs of farmer community in the province.
The government was making adequate efforts for developing the backward and ignored rural and urban areas on top priority basis, he said, adding the government was providing basic facilities like health, education and Sui gas to the people living in far-off and neglected areas.
The PA Speaker disclosed that Sialkot-Eminabad Road would be converted into dual carriageway at a cost of Rs 750 million, and work on that project would be executed in near future.
The completion of the project would help in developing the new industries on this track and provide job opportunities for people at their doorstep besides reduce the travelling distance of Gujranwala and Lahore, he said.
Member Provincial Assembly and Punjab Standing Committee's Chairman Ansar Iqbal Baryar, Sialkot Ex-Tehsil Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema also spoke on the occasion.
