Wilton Park, a UK-based think-tank, and the Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) of the Punjab University would cooperate in educational research and exchange of research scholars to encourage new dimensions of research on issues relating to security and nuclearisation of South Asia.
This was agreed upon in a meeting held between the CSAS Director and Wilton Park Executive Director Klaus Becher here on Friday.
Klaus Becher appreciated the launch of research primarily relating to South Asia at CSAS and hoped that this Centre would help in devising new conflict resolution modes and recommend ways and means of tangible diplomacy for sustainable peace in South Asia.
Meanwhile, he delivered keynote lecture on the topic of NPT to the M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. He said that Pakistan, India, Israel and other states could benefit from NPT, as this agreement would accord an opportunity to these states to improve their nuclear programmes by adopting safety measures. He maintained that Pakistani researchers could benefit from rich research opportunities available at UK institutions of higher education.
On the occasion, students and teachers raised various question about double standard of the West and maintained that it was anti-Islam in its approach.
Earlier, the CSAS Director briefed the guest about the working of the Centre.
